“The role of diplomacy in the context of meetings in English”
The finer subtleties of diplomacy can make a big difference to our relationships ….it’s that intangible “feeling” that you get when you perceive someone as friendly and well-intentioned, or disinterested or imposing, authoritarian or diplomatic and tactful….
We all have a natural tendency towards being more or less imposing, more or less “polite” direct or diplomatic…..but according to the circumstances we should also be able (and willing) to change our register , to adapt it when the situation requires it.
And the question is …..Which are those circumstances?
Obviously business and political criteria are important, but cultural requirements can also play a large role in determining what is/isn’t polite, diplomatic, good-mannered, kind and considerate….or what is/isn’t considered to be rude, bad-manners, direct and frank
In this webinar we will see ..
– How cultural issues affect our language and influence our professional relationships when organising, leading (and participating) in meetings or video-calls so, how to sound friendly, positive, but clear and firm, even when saying something negative or delicate.
– Using intermediate & advanced vocabulary to be more accurate and / or more “friendly”
– Typical expressions ranging in register (more neutral, less formal, more direct etc..) ie how to express agreement or disagreement, giving opinions, suggesting, interrupting, clarifying….etc
At the beginning of the meeting we will have the intervention of Regla Bejarano, Cruzcampo Foundation Director.
